WDFH Founder Marc Sophos Remembers Robyn Leary (1950-2011)

WDFH Founder Marc Sophos remembers a longtime friend and dedicated volunteer, Robyn Leary, host of Recovery Talk.

The WDFH family recently learned about the loss of a longtime friend and dedicated volunteer, Robyn Leary. WDFH Founder and Executive Director takes a moment to remember her.

We are shocked and saddened by the death last week of our dear friend and longtime WDFH volunteer Robyn Leary. Robyn, who lived in Ossining, first came to WDFH in 2004 with a unique idea: a program that would focus on recovery from anything that one can recover from.

The program, Recovery Talk, would deal over the years with dozens of topics, including recovery from addiction, violent crime, domestic violence, and chemical dependency among nurses and in the LGBT community.  She talked with people about openmindedness and change and their effect on mental health, and how dogs can aid in the recovery of humans. Just a few weeks ago, she completed a three part series on the recovery issues faced by women returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She interviewed a wide variety of people, including those in recovery, professionals in the field, and such high profile guests as the CEO of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America.

Robyn was a treasured part of the WDFH family.  She loved WDFH and was extremely supportive of the station throughout her years with us.  We will miss her deeply.
