Maryknoll Classic Car Show Today

An employee-driven fundraising event that will provide Westchester County with what may be its largest antique and classic car show has started revving its engines at the Maryknoll Society.

The lay employees at Maryknoll decided to navigate beyond their regular daily responsibilities to organize a fundraiser that supports Maryknoll, promotes the work of the society and opens the Maryknoll Mission Center and grounds to the New York metropolitan area community. Collective brainstorming led down a path to an antique and classic car show for this coming June that will welcome everyone to the 100-acre Maryknoll campus near the Hudson River in Ossining.

The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers’ Antique and Classic Car Show is scheduled for Sunday, June 10 (rain date: Sunday, June 17) and hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sponsors include the Ossining PBA (which will bring along a SWAT vehicle), Briarcliff Classic & Imports, Brian’s Automotive of Peekskill and T/T Auto Parts (CarQuest) of Ossining. Participating local vendors include Liberty Mutual Insurance, Briarcliff Classic & Imports and the U.S. Postal Service.

Awards, Prizes, Other Activities

The show is expected to attract about 100 cars ranging from pre-war antiques to rides from the disco era. The first registered car for the show is a 1960 Thunderbird.

More than 20 awards will be presented to car owners and the competition will be professionally judged by the Road Knights Auto Club. Throughout the day, prizes will be announced for car owners and all the people who attend the show.

The show also will feature the famous 1953 Hansgen-Jaguar Special owned by Bob Millstein of Briarcliff Manor. The Jaguar XK120 Special won at such events as the 1953 Watkins Glen Grand Prix.

More Than Just Cars

Besides attracting car buffs, the event will provide many activities to entertain the entire family.

Children’s activities will include a slot-car race track and face painting. Children also will be introduced to a seedling program associated with Maryknoll’s Our Global Pachamama Farm, the on-campus farm that generates 10 tons of food annually for local food pantries.

Live ‘50’s and 60’s music will be heard across the grounds throughout the day and the pot of gold for the 50/50 raffle already is growing. Plenty of summer-style food, including hamburgers, ice cream, sausage and peppers, home-baked goods and plenty more, will be available.

Tours of Maryknoll’s Seminary Building, believed to be the largest fieldstone building in the country will include visiting the main chapel, a museum about Maryknoll’s work of serving the poor around the world and a gift shop with unique items from the countries in which Maryknoll serves.

All the activities at Maryknoll will be provided for just a $5 per family suggested admission fee.
