County Legislators Secure Funding for Ossining Treatment Plant Repairs

In a unanimous vote, the Westchester County Board of Legislators approved a bond act and bond amendment to fund the replacement of aerial electrical cables servicing the Ossining Wastewater Treatment Plant with a network of underground lines.

The project involves constructing concrete ducts and manholes along roadways, piping under railroad tracks, and constructing a metal cable bridge over the Sing Sing Creek.

The construction bond will be for $2.7M with an amendment that brought the design costs down from $500,000 to $100,000.

Legislator Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining), head of the BOL Government Operations Committee, spearheaded the vote.

“Making timely investments in our infrastructure repairs ensures the safety of our residents and business owners while helping us avoid situations and accidents that result in more costly repairs down the road,” Borgia said. “My colleagues on the Board of Legislators understand the importance of this responsibility, and I’m grateful for their support on a project that impacts the residents of Ossining.”

As far as a timeline, Borgia said she expected this "necessary" project of replacing worn overhead power lines that are 30 years old to begin “soon.”

“Replacement of these cables is necessary to maintain reliable electrical service to the treatment plant,” said Borgia. “I’m confident the work will begin soon.”
