At the next Ferry Sloops monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 7:30PM, The Hudson River Ramblers, comprised of master storyteller Jonathan Kruk and folk balladeer Rich Bala, will perform authentic stories and songs in the Nature Center at Croton Point Park.
Admission is FREE and open to the public. Come with a dish at 6:30PM to enjoy a potluck dinner or arrive at 7:30PM for the show. (appropriate for adults and children of all ages)
The Hudson River Ramblers have been rambling the villages and valleys of the Hudson River and beyond for twenty years. Through period songs and authentic storytelling, this duo turns the region’s history and heritage into lively performances that dramatizes the Hudson’s critical role in the forging of our nation, from its importance during the Revolutionary War, to its use as a major transportation route for sloops, steamboats, and canals during the 1800’s, and even today, as the focal point for the environmental movement.

Jonathan Kruk, selected “Best Storyteller in the Hudson Valley," is known for dramatic performances, including “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Rich Bala, a leading expert of Hudson River songs, has been lauded by none other folk icon Pete Seeger and has appeared at the Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown and the New England Folk Festival, among other venues.
From Lake Tear of the Clouds on Mt. Marcy, in the high peaks region of the Adirondacks, to Battery Park at the lower tip of Manhattan, the Hudson River offers a rich and textured landscape of history, folklore, song and story. Jonathan and Rich illuminate this landscape with legends and ballads about Captain Kidd’s treasure, the Imp of Donderberg Mountain, Benedict Arnold’s treason at West Point, the origins of Yankee Doodle, and why there is a “World’s End" on the Hudson.

Ferry Sloops' monthly meetings are held at the Nature Center in Croton Point Park on the first Wednesday of each month. Our potluck supper begins at 6:30PM, followed by our meeting at 7:00PM and guest (speaker or musician) at 7:30PM. The meetings are open to all current members and non-members interested to learn more about Ferry Sloops.
