Self Expression Brings Joy

How expressing yourself can release a great feeling about yourself!

When you have joy in your heart, you express it through movement. Children’s bodies naturally move, because their hearts feel good. Creative movement is the outward expression of positive emotion. Yoga with children reconnects you to the practice as a form of articulating the joy inside. - Marcus Julian Felicetti

Each day I am reminded by my children how to find joy in everyday life.  Yes, there are trying times-many of them!-but my kids can always seem to find the brighter side of a situation.

When the situation seems bleak, or I am stressed out, I am amazed at how my kids know just what to say to crack a smile across my face.  Take for example is this morning.  My daughter, Aliyah the night owl, refused to come out of her warm and comfy bed to get dressed and ready for school. She complained of being tired, whining ensued and she buried herself under her fluffy down comforter.  The clock continued to tick. We had twenty minutes until the bus - they hadn't eaten, got dressed..

So my son, Robbie focusing on complaining about how hungry he was and that he wanted to play Monopoly NOW, thought for a moment about the situation. Then he looked at both of us and said, in all seriousness, "Mommy, why don't you just throw a bucket of water over her and see what she does?"

Aliyah and I began laughing so uncontrollably we couldn't stop.  Robbie did too.

When you have joy in your heart, you express it through movement. Our movement was laughter. We laughed and giggled.  The joy in our hearts made out bodies shake with excitement.  We felt free and relieved from stress. As one can feel when they move through the creative poses of yoga when they practice with their children.

In laughing heart yoga's family yoga classes, we let our bodies move freely from one pose to another, finding creative ways to express ourselves, and sometimes coming up with a unique new expression of postures.   Have fun with your kids in a Family yoga on December 1st at Hudson Yoga with laughing heart yoga. Reconnect or develop a yoga practice by connecting with the joy inside of you.

Oh...and Robbie made the bus. Aliyah didn't.
