Hanauer Seeks Fifth Term as Ossining Village Mayor
Bill Hanauer will seek re-election to a fifth term as Ossining village's mayor.
From his press release:
Mayor Hanauer said that, “From cutting the ribbons to opening the
Aquatic Center and the Ossining Public Library in early 2007, through
the adaptive reuse as affordable condos and spa of the Ossining Bank and
Trust Building and the construction of the Red Lion affordable apartments
on Academy and State, to the recent opening of Avalon Ossining, the
construction of a new building on the We Can Do It property, and the
restoration of the A. L. Myers Building on Main Street, the Village has
enjoyed a true renaissance. This during the worst economy since the GreatDepression of the 1930s!“
We have continued a sustained period of unprecedented growth
through the construction of new homes for current residents of all levels of
financial resources and, by attracting new residents and businesses, have
spread the tax base and kept property tax increases to a minimum.”
Mayor Hanauer pointed out that Harbor Square will, at last, break
ground this Spring, and will not only meet the requirements of FEMA and
the NYS Department of Economic Conservation, but will fulfill all of the
goals of the 2009 Comprehensive Plan for the Waterfront by providing
recreational, residential, business, open space, water-dependent, and water-related uses, including a restaurant, and extending RiverWalk.
The 2013 Bicentennial Celebration, Harborfest, and the Ossining
in 3D outdoor sculpture exhibit demonstrated the Village’s potential as
a destination for tourists; and, thanks to the support of Assemblywoman
Sandy Galef and Senator David Carlucci, the prospects for an Historic Sing Sing have been revived.
“In my next term,” Mayor Hanauer stated, “working with the
Trustees, the administration, the employees, and with public input, we
will consolidate the gains of the past few years with the construction of
environmentally sustainable mixed-use buildings of significant quality
architecture and create a new village green on the parking lots at Main
and Spring, calm traffic, and make our downtown a pedestrian-friendly,
dynamic, and desirable place to live, recreate, and do business.
“I hope the voters of Ossining will support the continued renaissance
of our Village, will participate in the development of a new downtown plan,
and will re-elect me to another term.”
