The Village of Ossining Receives A Certified Local Government Grant For The Downtown Ossining Historic Walking Tour Project

The Village of Ossining Board of Trustee’s has received and approved a grant from The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (NYSOPRHP) for the Downtown Ossining Historic Walking Tour project.

The grant, equaling $1,550.00, will be used to fund the printing costs of the project. The goal of the walking tour project is to promote tourism in Ossining’s Historic Downtown and as a result boost both the community’s pride and economy.

“Tourism equals commerce and pride in community,” said Ossining Mayor William Hanauer. “The grant comes from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. We became eligible for such grants when we joined the Certified Local Government Program.”

The Certified Local Government Program is a partnership program between local, state and national agencies with the goal of promoting historical preservation at the local level. Once accepted into the program, the local community then becomes a partner in the Federal Historic Preservation Program and all the benefits it offers such as access to federal funding.

There was no comment on when the Walking Tour Project would be completed.
