Presidents' Day: What's Open & Closed in Ossining and Croton

Monday is a federal holiday in honor of the nation's first president, George Washington, sometimes called "Presidents' Day," such as in our headline. Here's a starter list of what's open and closed in our villages.

Own a business or involved in an organization in Croton-on-Hudson or Ossining? Tell us in the comments thread below whether you're open, closed or holding special hours on Monday, a federal holiday. We'll update this article with your information.

What's Closed

Local

  • Government offices: Croton village, town of Cortlandt, Ossining village and Ossining town are closed for Washington's Birthday. Strictly speaking, Monday is known as Washington's Birthday (though the great man was born Feb. 22), and has only become known as "Presidents Day" more recently to also ecompass Abraham Lincoln's Feb. 12 birthday (in New York, a state holiday).
  • Libraries: Ossining and Croton are closed.
  • Post offices—There will be no mail delivered or sent Monday.
  • Public schools—No school Monday due to the holiday. Then the rest of the week is winter break in Croton-Harmon.
