24-Year-Old Accused of Killing Two While Texting, Driving Drunk

Luis Munoz was arraigned in Orange County Court Tuesday on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and other felonies, according to the Times Herald-Record.

The 24-year-old allegedly struck Melissa Rupo, 25 of Mineola and Rafaelito DeJesus, 23 or Valley Stream while driving on the New York State Thruway near Exit 16 in the Town of Woodbury. He fled the scene.

Orange County Assistant District Attorney Karen Edelman-Reyes said Munoz had seven beers before leaving his Ossining home to see his girlfriend in New Jersey who he was angry with because she wasn’t returning his text messages. He is accused of swerving into the couple who were pulled over on their motorcycle at a safety area near the exit.
