Icy Forecast Leads to Early School Dismissal

Both Ossining and Croton-Harmon are operating on an early dismissal schedule for Mon. Jan. 28.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Lower Hudson Valley and forecast icy travel conditions which have prompted local schools to dismiss students early today.

In Croton-Harmon, the high school and middle school will be dismissed at 11 a.m.; the elementary school will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. All afterschool programs including children's supervision at the middle and high school will remain open.

In Ossining schools, the high school and middle school will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. and all elementary schools will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. There will be no afternoon pre-kindergarten today.

The snow will begin late morning, according to the NWS, mixing with sleet by the afternoon and changing to freezing rain and drizzle by the evening. The ice accumulation on the road could make for slippery driving conditions.

Temperatures are expected to hover around 30 degrees today and below freezing tonight. The ice could stick around until Tuesday morning, when the air should warm into the mid 40s.
