Gains Made in Plans for Redesign of Croton-Harmon Train Station

Plans for the Croton-Harmon train station makeover are under way.

According to The Journal News, in coming weeks the public will have the chance to preview designs for a makeover of the entrance to the Croton-Harmon train station. The remodeling aims to make access less chaotic and more friendly to bikers and walkers.

The outline of a plan that village leaders and engineering consultants are working to finalize includes new construction, bike lanes and synchronized traffic lights.

The federal government has committed $1.2 million toward the project, and the village will be responsible for costs above that. A rough estimate of the work now stands at $2.5 million, though this figure has been criticized as too high. Additionally the village has access to $400,000 in Westchester County funding.

The new configuration may also tie in with plans to improve the retail sector in the village and the Harmon business district that adjoins the train station

A presentation of the proposal is will be put on the meeting agenda of the Village Board of Trustees in February or March for informal public comment.
