Some people come into our lives and quickly go; others stay for awhile and touch our hearts so deeply that we are never the same. Two years ago, my grandfather Edward F. Carter was told the words that nobody should ever have to hear, "you have cancer". That day changed our lives forever. After six long month of courageous fighting, he lost his battle. But not before he had the chance to touch so many hearts so deeply that they were never the same.
This year, I am partaking in the 4th Annual Hendrick Hudson Leos Stay awake a thon. This community event is designed to celebrate with cancer survivors, remember those who lost their battle, and to provide a support system to those who are currently fighting this terrible disease. This year, my fundraising is in admiration of my grandfather. The Stay awake a thon (SAA) is a great opportunity to reach out and help others struggling with the hardships that cancer brings not only to the person fighting it, but to the loved ones who surround them. Nobody should face this expereince by themselves and everybody should know that the community is here to lend a hand; I hope you will by joining us this year.
The proceeds from the Stay Awake a Thon are being donated to the new and to Happiness is Camping- a camp for children with cancer. If you would like to make a donation, you can send a check made out to the Hendrick Hudson Leos and mail to PO Box 660, Verplanck, NY 10596. If you want, you can put my name in the memo line and the donation will come to me in Memory of my Grandpa. For more information you can go to www.henhudleos.org, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 914-736-7473.
I hope to see you Saturday, May 5th at the HHHS for this amazing event.
