Happy Valetine's Day from Senator Carlucci

Dear Friend,

I want to wish everyone a very special and happy Valentine's Day. I am so blessed and lucky to have married my best friend Lauren. Here is a picture of us attending the Human Rights Campaign annual New York Gala last weekend.

At the event United States Attorney General announced that the United States government will recognize same-sex marriages as equal to tradition marriages in all federal legal matters across all 50 states.

 First Annual Hearts for Soldiers

NYACK-Thanks to everyone who participated in our first Hearts for Soldiers program at the Nyack Manor nursing home. Residents from Nyack Manor created over 1000 valentines that my office, along with Rockland Veterans Affairs, will deliver to the Montrose Veterans hospital in Westchester.

Special thanks to Josa Andaloro, Director of Recreation at Nyack Manor, for helping to organize the event. Every bit of gratitude shown to our men and women who served in uniform is always appreciated.

Working Together on Common Core Implementation

SUFFERN- This week I hosted a forum on the Common Core learning standards with my colleagues in the Assembly, Assemblyman Zebrowski, Assemblyman Skoufis and Assemblywoman Jaffee.

This has been a very contentious issue and I have worked together with education leaders to call on the board of regents to delay Common Core's implementation and sponsor legislation to protect student data.

If you have additional thoughts and concerns and were unable to attend the meeting please contact my office.

Family Leave New Yorkers Deserve

ALBANY-As a proud new father, I understand firsthand about the costs and burdens of raising a child. It does not come cheap, and it is certainly not easy.

It’s unacceptable that when it comes to paid family leave, New York looks more like Liberia or Sierra Leone than the progressive leader it’s always been.  Right now, too many workers are falling through cracks.

That cannot continue for our state’s working families and that’s exactly why this week I joined advocates for working parents, same sex couples and New York seniors to unveil a new paid family leave plan that will guarantee six weeks of paid leave whenever a new child enters their home or close family member is stricken with a serious illness.

 Protecting our Health

PEARL RIVER- This week I joined with local bakery owners Diane Banta and Phyllis Damiano of Baked by Angels in Pearl River to talk about the dangers of azodicarbonamide in baked products.

This chemical used to make yoga mats is commonly found in fast food restaurant breads even though it is banned in the European Union, Australia and the UK.

I have pending legislation that would ban the production and sale of azodicarbonamide laced baked products in New York State.

Don't Forget the Tappan Zee Bridge!

ROCKLAND- I applaud the Governor for announcing a reduction in budget crushing tolls for Staten Island commuters using the Verazano bridge. However, Rockland and Westchester residents who use the Tappan Zee Bridge should not be ignored

The new Tappan Zee Bridge will be a bridge to nowhere if residents can’t afford to cross it. That is why I have introduced a new innovative tax credit for commuters who use tolls throughout the entire State.

Commuters are the life force of our small businesses throughout the area especially in Rockland and Westchester counties where many places of business are inaccessible by public transit. I look forward to working with the Governor to make this a reality.
