Calling Everyone!

Please help me with a journalism project by answering one simple question!

I am doing a project for a Web Reporting class and could use your help.

The project has to do with researching charities and non-profit organizations and I am looking to gather some information. A component of my project requires crowd sourcing, meaning that information is gathered by putting a question out for public response. The responses are then gathered and used as a form of research towards the project. I would appreciate if you could take a moment of your time to answer the following question to generate local responses.

"What provokes you to donate money to a non-profit or charity organization?"

If you can please respond in the comment box below and include your first and last name and the town where you currently live, that would be great. Location is a driving force behind crowd sourcing. **Responses will be used for the sole purpose of my class and will published on a blog site that is only used in my class.

Thank you for your help!

There is nothing worse than the dinner time phone call "counting on your support" - it's a real turn off and I am less likely to respond. It's impossible to give to every charity so I choose causes dear to my heart - animals/ environment/ personal connection/ local organizations. I also think it is important include the kids in your charitable giving and make them realize everyone can help, even if it's not in a monetary way - baking, volunteering etc... it all helps (Katonah)

There are a few reasons why I donate. First off that feeling i get when somebody who I am donating to thanks me is the best feeling in the world. It's why I did habitat for humanity and why I volunteer in my hometown as well. Also I do it because it just makes me feel happier, I want people who are a little bit worse off to get that joy that I get from helping them. Steven Robertson, Wallingford,CT

Nicole Fano Montville, NJ I think it is important to donate to charities that mean something to each individual person. I have two cousins with autism, and my whole family is very involved in organizations that spread autism awareness. Non-profit organizations are a fantastic way to get involved in a community, and to support a cause that is important to the individual.

I donate for a couple of reasons: First, I donate to causes that are near and dear to me. I love animals and have had pets all my life. It kills me to see innocent animals suffering so I donate to different organizations and charities that protect them in any way they can. Also, I try to give to people who are less fortunate then I am. It feels good to give something to a person or help them out as much as you can.
