Poll: What Should Open at Jefferson Valley Mall?

Ossining and Croton-on-Hudson residents are having mixed reactions about Buca di Beppo, the neighborhood-style restaurant with an Italian menu, that is in Westchester County at the  in Yorktown. 

The planned eatery, expected to open during the 2012 holiday season, would occupy 6,564 square-feet and be situated prominently off the mall’s main entrance.

The news sparked different reactions among Patch readers – some expressing excitement that an empty space would be filled, while others weren't happy with the soon-to-be new dining option.

"All I can say is 'It's about time,' Terri Zumatto wrote in a comment to . "The [Jefferson Valley Mall] has had no dining options for years and no dine-in restaurant for over a decade."

Readers said they were happy to see a new restaurant open, rather than seeing stores closing.

"I have long hoped for an improved mall," Mary Farrell Murphy said. "I live right near it, have four children and would welcome more stores, better anchor stores, a theater and a restaurant so that we don't have to travel to the Cortlandt Town Center."

Frank Scalzo wrote on Facebook that he didn't think the restaurant was a good idea. 

"One thing we aren't lacking in this neighborhood is Italian restaurants," Scalzo wrote. "And will a chain be able to hold up to our local, family Italian restaurants? I guess we will see. Something along the lines of a Friday's would have been a better fit."
