New Wine Boutique in Ossining

People in Ossining and the surrounding area now have an opportunity to experience the relaxing atmosphere of their own unique wine boutique.

You may have noticed a new store on Ossining's Main Street. The new business is a wine boutique called Tasty Port Wine. The shop, owned by Ossining resident Antonio Da Silva, has unique wines from all over the world.

Tasty Port Wine specializes in Portuguese Wines. Portugal's wines have been influenced by a number of ancient civilizations, including the Romans, Greeks and Phoenicians. White wines are the most popular, but the country also exports red and rosé wines.

Ossining's new wine boutique gives people a way to explore Portugal's undiscovered wine varieties.

"Antonio wanted to show the world Portuguese wine, which is not very well know yet," said Tasty Port Wine employee Rute Goncalves. "Portugal is one of the countries with the most grapes in the world."

Tasty Port Wine calls itself a boutique, and there's a good reason for that. One can't help but notice the unique, homey feel when you walk in the door. "Antonio wanted to create a comfortable, yet elegant environment," said Goncalves.

Many people who walk into Tasty Port Wine are taken aback, as they have never seen a wine shop like it.

"They're very surprised how everything is decorated and put together, and how the prices are not high—the prices are normal," said Goncalves. "So it's affordable prices with an amazing environment. People are really enjoying it. They think that it's very unique.

There are multiple reasons why Da Silva choose Ossining, including the large Portuguese population here—as well as the fact that Portuguese restaurant Doca's is next door.

"I feel like Downtown Ossining needed that extra spice to it…It needs shops it needs businesses like ours," said Goncalves. "So what better place to have our shop than downtown Ossining, so we can help out the community."
