Art Along the Hudson Kicks Off in Cold Spring May 10

The 9th Annual celebration of art from Peekskill and other artistic towns in the Hudson Valley begins this Thursday.

The 9th Annual Art Along the Hudson is a promotional event that features 10 Hudson Valley communities with vibrant artistic districts, including Peekskill, of course. Peekskill's Special Events include Open Studios, June 2-3; Juneteenth Parade & Celebration, June 16; Jazz and Blues Festival, July 21; and Peekskill Celebration, Aug. 3-4. Garrison Art Center and Cold Spring Arts have joined forces to host the 9th Annual Art Along the Hudson Kick Off Event, this Thursday May 10th, 2012. A juried exhibition of works by artists from each of the participating towns will be held at Philipstown dot Info, 69 Main St. in Cold Spring, May 10, from 6:30 to 9:30pm, along with other exhibitions and offerings for the evening.

The exhibition was juried by artist and professor Ed Smith, a Guggenheim Fellow in Sculpture and Drawingand an Associate member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. His work is represented in The BritishMuseum, The Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp Belgium, Ministry of the Flemish Community, The HoodMuseum, the Davis Museum, Yale University and many more. He has had many one person exhibitionsand innumerable group exhibitions which include, Brooklyn Museum, Caversham Press South Africa,Fleming Museum, The Albright Knox Museum, and many others. His work has been written about andreviewed in the New York Times, Sculpture Magazine, and Art News among others.

In addition to the Art Along the Hudson Exhibition, Cold Spring will simultaneously hosts exhibits toat other venues including the Marina Gallery, Terence Donovan Gallery, The Living Room, ChapelRestoration and Gallery 66. Art and music will also be featured at Cathryn’s Tuscan Grill, The Depot Restaurant, Riverview Restaurant, the Silver Spoon Café and Whistling Willie’s Restaurant.

Art Along the Hudson, now in its 9th year, is a unique year-round collaborative marketing effort to promote towns on or near the river as vibrant arts and cultural communities.  

In 2012, Art Along the Hudson willcelebrate the arts in ten artistically-focused communities on the Hudson River including: Peekskill, Garrison/Cold Spring, Newburgh, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, New Paltz, Rhinebeck/Red Hook, Kingston, Saugerties and Woodstock. It is also promoting eight Hudson Valley Studio Tours offering art lovers greatopportunities to meet the many artists living and working in the Hudson Valley. A new 2012 brochure willbe available at the kickoff describing the art venues and studio stours.

The purpose of the Art Along the Hudson Spring Kick-off Media Event is to bring together businessowners, elected officials, artists, arts patrons and the media with a focus on the many and varied cultural opportunities available and how they generate economic growth.

The Arts are now more than ever a significant economic factor in the revitalization of Main Streets. It is in large part the arts and cultural organizations that help fill restaurants and lodgings, and bring dollars and jobs to the Hudson Valley. From major metropolitan areas to small rural towns, the research showsto what degree the nonprofit arts and culture industry attracts audiences, spurs business development,supports jobs and generates government revenue. Locally as well as nationally, the arts mean business.
