Subway Series? Get Serie-ous!

Calling every set of mid-season Mets-Yankees games a 'Subway Series' insults and ignores New York baseball lore.

My alter ego Grammar Geek isn't only mindful of how even professional writers who get paid for their verbal skills blithely misuse punctuation and words and botch sentences on a daily basis.

GG also gets a twitch when he sees expressions rich in nostalgia and emotion become so watered down by overuse or misuse that the original resonance has lost its musicality.

Today's example is Subway Series. The New York Yankees and New York Metropolitans just ended a three-game -- excuse the expression -- subway series (unworthy of initial caps) at CitiField. The previous SS between these crosstown clubs was played at Yankee Stadium.
