New York State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef invites all to attend a forum about campaign financing proposals that would make partial public financing of campaigns a reality for New York State office-seekers. Galef’s own polls of her constituents have shown growing interest in public financing of campaigns, as have broader, statewide polls. Coming off one of the costliest campaign seasons in American history, the Assemblywoman felt if was high time to discuss the facts behind campaign financing and what drives voter choice.
The meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, February 2nd, 2013 at the Desmond-Fish Library, 472 Route 403, Garrison from 12:15-2:15 pm, immediately following a Town Meeting the Assemblywoman is hosting there, on general state issues, which will take place from 11 am -12:00 noon.

“For too long, money has driven the choices voters have available to them. If someone cannot afford to compete with a big war chest, or a special interest group can give a big check to a candidate or sitting law maker, decisions at all levels are compromised.” Galef said. “I hope my constituents and anyone else interested will come hear some of the experts discuss how partial public financing of campaigns has worked in New York City for the last twenty years, and what options are available statewide.”
The panelists represent good government groups who have studied this issue, among others, to help make government by the people more of a reality. They are:
Dick Dadey, Executive Director, Citizens Union of the City of New York;
Jesse Laymon, Downstate Campaigns Manager, Citizen Action of New York; and,
Susan Lerner, Executive Director, Common Cause/NY
Panelists are all taking time on a weekend to leave their home territories to come up to the Assemblywoman’s district and address her constituents and hopefully build support for this critical issue.
“I encourage everyone to come to this meeting, and join me at my town meeting at 11:00 a.m. as well to discuss the state budget and the legislative agenda for this session,” said Galef.
Again, the Forum will take place as follows:
