"Ossining in 3D" Exhibit Brings Arts Award to Village

Ossining will be honored April 4 by ArtsWestchester at its annual Art Awards Luncheon.

The village wins the Presidents Award for "Ossining in 3D," the outdoor sculpture exhibit that anchored its bicentennial celebration in 2013.

"The project, which was three years in the planning, attracted thousands of visitors, raised Ossining's visibility, and served as a model for other municipalities," ArtsWestchester said in its newsletter article announcing the award. "Significantly, the project has a long-lived impact because the Village secured three of the works for permanent display."

(James Havens’ “Let’s Roll,” David Boyajian’s “Dancing Milkweed III” and Gary Orlinsky’s “Double Arch” were selected from among the 25 pieces displayed earlier this year to commemorate the Village of Ossining’s milestone anniversary.)

The luncheon, to be held this year at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, brings together officials, arts enthusiasts and supporters to recognize eight institutions or organizations that have contributed significantly to cultural life in Westchester County.

It is sponsored by First Niagara Bank.

Quoted in the newsletter, ArtsWestchester's CEO Janet Langsam called the event their version of the Academy Awards.

"This is our chance to take note of the abundant talent in Westchester and recognize those who have made a significant impact on the arts in our community," Langsam said.
