Croton River's Impact and Importance: A Free Lecture

Historian Scott Craven will speak Friday at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club

The public is invited to a lecture on the Croton River's importance to the region and the dramatic changes it has undergone since Colonial times.

The talk, at 7 p.m. March 22, will be given by Scott Craven, a local historian who has extensively researched the geographic, economic, cultural and social history of the river. In fact, Craven said, it was preeminent in his graduate studies.

Among the topics in his talk: the dramatic changes in Croton Point, the area's recreational uses, and Clifford Harmon's dream of making an artists' colony on the river.
