Storm Hub: It's Beautiful Out There, Frigid and Dangerous

Update, Friday, 12:45 p.m.

*Ossining Police report
that a tractor trailer jackknifed this morning, blocking Snowden Avenue around 7:30 a.m. "The truck took the most of it," police said, as far as damages. Beyond that, they reported no major issues.

*Temperatures are FRIGID, with wind gusts making it feel much worse. The Metro NY Red Cross offers tips to protect against frostbite, hypothermia and, that other seasonal danger, fires. Read more here.

*Metro-North will be running on Saturday schedule for Friday. More info on trains here.

*Closings, delays: Ossining Public Schools are closed, while Croton-Harmon students can enjoy their last day of winter break. The Ossining Food Pantry is closed Friday; Croton Village offices plan to open at 11 a.m. All Aboard On The Hudson, closed. Check WFAS Storm Center for the latest.

*Croton reports recycling collection services are cancelled for Friday.

*Remember to clear your hydrant if you have one in front of your house, and also: consider the postal service. Westchester District postal officials are reminding residents to include the mailbox in their snow removal routine since carriers depend on clear access for safe and timely mail delivery.

*Non-emergency questions? Call United Way's 2-1-1. They are ready and prepared for whatever the storm brings and are working with all Westchester emergency departments to handle possible increases in calls.

Thursday: Here we go.

The snow is expected to come on strong, in a "widespread blowing snow" fashion, as the National Weather Service calls it.

The NWS predicts for 10591 an overnight accumulation of 4 to 8 inches.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is gearing up for the worst, announcing the midnight closure of I-87 and the Thruway south of Albany through 5 a.m. Friday.

More on the closure here.

"Do not travel," the NWS said in its warning. "If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you."

For the latest on weather for Croton and Ossining, check the NWS site and the above window.
