Springtime is a popular time for religious events that include baptism and confirmation. For families celebrating these sacraments during the next several months, the Maryknoll Gift Shop in Ossining can provide a variety of religious keepsake gift ideas.

Located at the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Mission Center (55 Ryder Road, Ossining, New York 10562; regular hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.), the gift shop’s selections include At Your Baptism, a book that certainly will retain its sentimental value and explains the sacrament to a child as he or she begins to read with parents, grandparents and godparents. A crucifix for babies and other baptism gifts also are available.

For children receiving First Holy Communion, white cross Holy Communion bracelets and rosaries are available for girls along with heart-shaped crystal rosaries and blush pearl rosaries. A semi-precious hematite rosary is available for boys.

For confirmation, two books are available for boys and girls that explain the lives of Christian saints, including martyrs, hermits, miracle workers and scholars. Saints Lives & Illuminations tells the stories of more than 70 remarkable men and women who have provided spiritual examples to Christians. More Saints Lives & Illuminations contains stories about 36 additional remarkable men and women of the church.

The Maryknoll Gift Shop also offers religious and non-religious greeting cards, a large selection of theological books, religious statues, clothing and other items made by the people Maryknoll serves in mission around the world, and religious puzzles for children.

Items must be purchased in person. Call the Maryknoll Gift Shop at 914-941-7636, extension 2427.
