The snow may
be gone but it does not mean you have to get cabin fever! Fahnestock State
Parks -Taconic Outdoor Education Center invites you to participate in their National
Winter Trails Day "Snowless" Winterfest Celebration this Sunday,Jan13. The program hours are 11 am to 3 pm. It will take place at TOEC.
Outdoors: Instead of snowshoeing, sledding and skating, TOEC's Outdoor Educator staff will offer guided nature and winter bird walks. REI's Outdoor School instructors will show you how to set up a comfortable Winter Camp site. They will also be offering short distance guided trail hikes into the surrounding woodlands. Hudson Valley Outfitters will have staff available to answer questions about snowshoeing and make recommendations about trail park hikes.
Indoors:"Hands on Nature Crafts" will allow kids to be creative. Fahnestock Winter Park staff will be in attendance to answer questions about XC ski equipment, and wax
techniques. Putnam Highland Audubon will be here with bird seed for your winter birds and feeders. Guiding Eyes for the Blind, with their ambassador dogs will be on hand to speak about their programs. REI will also have ice climbing and snowshoe equipment available. They will also be happy to answers any questions
about winter clothing. We will finish the day with a wildlife presentation at 3:00 pm by Bill Robinson.
Food and hot beverages will be available in Highland Lodge. Suggested Donation: Adults - $2, Kids - $1. So sorry, no pets!
The TOEC is located in Fahnestock State Park, between Rte. 9 and the Taconic Parkway off
