Did you know the Croton Free Library is celebrating its diamond anniversary this year?
75 years ago, when FDR began his second term in office, the Hindenberg exploded, and Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered—the Croton Free Library was born.
As it prepares to celebrate this important birthday, the library is appealing to Crotonites near and far who might have a story or a photo to share—whether they remember visiting the library in its original location at the high school, when it was wedged into a room at the municipal building, or where it is now.
“We do have a fair number of old photos and tales that we plan to use in our historical displays and newsletter,” says library director Mary Donnery, “but we’re looking for more—and we know they’re out there. The library has such a rich heritage in our village. It’s important not to lose the memories people have of it. I’ve been here 25 years now, so there’s a bit of nostalgia involved in this project for me, too.”
No anecdote is too small; no photo too trivial.
You can contribute your memories three ways:
- Online at www.crotonfreelibrary.org/memories
