Ossining School District to Develop Internet Safety Curriculum

The Ossining Union Free School District will hold a number of Internet safety events for parents.

is developing an Internet safety curriculum. 12 Ossining Teachers will spearhead the new curriculum. The district says that while the Internet can be a good thing, it also poses risks in the form of privacy, inappropriate content and cyber-bullying.  The educators will create lesson that will help students navigate online safely, ethically and securely.

After the group of 12 Ossining teachers solidifies the Internet safety lessons, they will be given to each and every student within the Ossining Union Free School District. To supplement the lessons the school district will hold a number of events for parents. The events will alert parents to the risks of Internet surfing as well as ways that they can protect their children online.

The new Internet safety curriculum has been made possible with support from Ossining MATTERS Education Foundation and a grant from Verizon. “The Internet and digital media have become invaluable tools for teaching and learning, but it can also be anonymous and invasive, a dangerous ground for children and adults,” said Jennifer Forsberg, assistant director of technology for Ossining schools. “This grant will enable us to build a comprehensive awareness and education program for our faculty, students and their families.”
